Thanksgiving

It’s very gloomy and dark this morning, but I’m thankful I can stay home and drink tea!

Blue gets to wear his handsome black jacket, which he is very excited about.

“I have a uniform now!”

Buddy was always very tolerant of clothes, Echo tolerates them but sometimes tries to remove and hide them when you’re not looking, Watcher always acted like the clothes were strangling him, but Blue seems to love wearing clothes. I have never seen a dog so thrilled to be dressed up.

Echo doesn’t seem as enthusiastic about his matching brown jacket, but at least he hasn’t tried to bury it yet.

“Hmm, do I beat everyone to the hay rack or stay in case there’s crunchies?”

Angel broke her other horn a week or so ago. The fight with Drake when she broke the first one a few years back damaged the second one too, so it wasn’t unexpected it would break off at some point.

I have told her if she gets a hole in her head like Jeb (unlikely, hers broke several inches above the skull) she’s on her own, she has no more handles large enough for me to grab her by. She would probably be thankful to know she’s even more uncatchable.

She’s still punching everyone, but she can’t do the particular move of tossing her head backwards to stab with the points of her horns anymore. Or rather, she can, but it’s significantly less effective. I’m sure Liam & Co in particular are thankful she’s less pointy now.

“Hey! Make Angel move! We don’t want to pass her to get to the hay! We’re stuck!

Not thankful enough to press their luck, though.

Mira was too busy checking on her by-the-barn collection of sticks to worry about Angel.

“I don’t see what’s so great about horns anyway, I always get my way without them!”

Ah the power of being extremely cute. Always thankful for my Mira.

The sheep must have detected it was a day for eating treats, because Duke came up to beg for treats and he usually doesn’t in the morning. He’s doing very well for a guy who’ll be uncertain-but-at-least-14 years old by spring.

“Crunchies?”

He manages to be cute AND have great big horns. “Cute” is probably not the impression he’s going for, though. He would probably rather be “ruggedly handsome,” but the universal begging face with big wide eyes looking up at me will only ever be cute.

“Did someone say crunchies?

I don’t think Daisy has ever gotten that close to me without her mama right next to her. Actually, she’s very seldom that far away from her mama at all! Those are Mama Duchess’s legs at the very top of the photo, keeping an eye on her “baby” girl. When you have the best most perfect lamb in the world you have to keep an eye out for lamb-stealers, even when the lamb is six years old!

“What’s taking so long??”

I haven’t been home to let the sheep out in the mornings lately except on weekends, so Blue was extra excited this morning and repeatedly “forgot” he’s not supposed to jump up on people all the way back to the house.

“Can we go inside now?”

I’m sure Echo is excited, too. Deep down inside. He’s excited to go inside, at least. A whole holiday for eating and napping is exactly his style.
