First Snow

Blue was very very excited about the snow. Snow is for eating! And running in mad circles!

“Why is the ground white?”

“I gotta keep running so my feet don’t get cold!”

He kept trying to grab clumps of snow and run off with them, and seemed confused when whatever he grabbed immediately disappeared from his mouth.

The sheep were… less enthusiastic. Snow means they will all starve, which has never once happened here, but it could. You never know. There might never ever be any grass again! They also don’t like walking on snow, I think it’s hard on their short legs and tiny hooves.

“Where’s all the grass??”

Nova just stayed by my leg chewing on my jeans, as she does.

“Give me crunchies and I’ll chew those instead!

Mira was mostly annoyed that the snow makes it hard to move her sticks.

“Why is it stuck??”

“I hope you know you’ve made my job very difficult with this weather! I do not appreciate it!”

The dogs were both exploring the yard, Blue still running in circles and Echo more sedately sniffing.

“Come on Echo you got to try running! This is so fun!”

Echo tried running once, many years ago, and hasn’t felt the need to repeat the experience unless it’s running to the back door for mealtime.

“When I run, you chase me, ok?”

“OK then I’ll chase you instead!”

Poor Echo is very patient.

I don’t think the snow will last long, but it was a pretty surprise to wake up to!
